![]() We all have elements of ourselves and our lives that tend to move into unhealthy states of being. In our course Strengthening Your Core, we are finding ways to recognize those extremes and bring them back into a state of balance. One of mine is being controlling, or overly directive. The first step is to recognize when I am entering this state. I love the program of CoDA primarily because it helps me to address that controlling tendency. The flip side of controlling is throwing up your hands, and letting someone else do it all. In CoDA they identify this alternative as Avoidance. So either a person controls every detail, or they completely withdraw and avoid. Neither of these are very healthy. So what stands in the middle as a healthy heart-centered way of being. I have been practicing with this, and I noticed the other day when I was being very directive, I needed to open up space for the other person to enter and participate. How can I become softer, more welcoming of others input and participation. This is such a tricky space, and becoming conscious of it, having the willingness to change, then making the action, however foreign it may seems towards that open, welcoming state, will be the first step. Strengthening the Core: A Journey to Self-Love Held on the New Moon Jan 12th at 7PM CST The most important journey of life is that of self-discovery. "Know thy self" For most of us, who I see myself as is the product of so much social and familial conditioning. It is a game of comparing and competing. Maybe I have an image of who I want to be, and can't seem to get there? But ask yourself truly, where did this image come from? The first month in our first course focuses on our individual biographies. They have such a deep and lasting impact on our perceptions of who we are. Our individual life stories are embedded in a long history of belief systems, both on the small scale (like our parents or our community) and on a large social scale (the trends of the time). Understanding how to disentangle myself, and my personal beliefs, from those of the people around me is one of the first steps towards liberation toward a true and empowered vision of myself. We will spend one hour responding to prompts about our families, our peers and smaller social circles, and our larger social networks. Be prepared to think about your ancestors. When we set intentions we are saying to the universe, “This is what I want for my life.” Intentions are the seeds of our soul’s desire. As we set them, we set the course to see new and beautiful things blossom in our lives. When setting my personal intention for the new year, I want to ask myself, “What is it I want to harvest in the new year? What is my soul most longing to experience? What would my life look like if I were living my dream? What do I need to let go of to step into my light?” 2021 Intention’s Setting Ceremony Guide: Prior to joining us, it will be useful to spend each night from today until New Year’s Day, thinking of what your soul most desires to experience in the new year. Each night before bed, grab your journal, and find a comfy spot. Center your attention on the present moment. Set your timer for 5 minutes and ask yourself, “What would my highest expression of my soul look like? What do I need to do to step onto that path? What is my soul longing to experience in the new year?” Notice what arises. Allow your thoughts to flow without judgement. When the timer ends journal for another 5 minutes or so. Notice both the positive and negative emotions or thoughts that arise. Perhaps there is the inner critic that wants to minimize your desires. Write down both the positive and negative in your journal. We will set intentions to let go of any limiting beliefs you have identified, so we may step into our heart’s desire without fear, judgement, or doubt. For Friday, please come with a candle and a journal or something to write with. We will light our candles at 1:11 Central Standard Time. She does not proclaim to be a guru. She is a straight forward journalist with a scientific mind. For this reason her work appeals to me. Her first foray into the power of intention came when she did some personal investigating of what the whole New Age was about. She had heard many people talk about consciousness as having the power to manifest reality through intention. She didn't really believe it. But, she was curious enough to investigate. Time after time, the experiments in setting and sending intentions shattered her scientific materialistic world view. From that point on she dedicated her work to understanding the nature of consciousness. If you are interested in her work on the power of intention, check out her book "The Intention Experiment". Or for a small but powerful effect, try out "The Power of Eight" for yourself. Her research in the Power of Eight showed that SHARED intentions, even in a smaller group could enhance the power to create a new reality. Intentions created around everything from medical issues, to relationships, to material and financial prosperity showed a greater success rate when those intentions were made as a group.
